What Is Tendonitis

Tendinitis refers to the inflammation or irritation of a tendon, which are the strong, fibrous cords that connect muscles to bones. If you experience discomfort or sensitivity near a joint, it could be a sign of tendinitis. Although tendinitis can affect any tendon in the body, it is most frequently seen in the knees, heels, shoulders, elbows, and wrists.

Other common names for tendonitis are:

  • Swimmer’s Shoulder
  • Jumper’s knee
  • Achilles tendonitis

Symptoms Of Tendonitis

Tendonitis is a condition characterised by inflammation of the tendons, which are the thick cords that attach muscles to the bones. The most common symptom of tendonitis is pain and tenderness in the affected area, which is often exacerbated by movement or pressure. This pain can range from mild to severe and may be accompanied by swelling and warmth in the affected tendon. In some cases, there may also be a noticeable lump or thickening of the tendon. Tendonitis can occur in any tendon in the body, but it most often affects the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and heels. The symptoms of tendonitis can make it difficult to perform everyday activities and may worsen over time if left untreated. It is important to seek medical attention if you experience persistent pain, swelling, or loss of function in a tendon, as these could be signs of tendonitis.

Our Treatment Options To Help Tendonitis

Here at Head2Toe, Carrgaline we offer a few treatment options to help manage the symptoms and promote healing. During your first visit, we will carry out a thorough exam to determine the best treatment option to help with your tendonitis.

Dry Needling For Treating Tendonitis

This technique involves inserting a thin needle into trigger points within the affected tendon to release tension and improve blood flow to the area. By doing so, it can help reduce pain, improve flexibility, and promote the healing of the tendon. The process of dry needling helps to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and can lead to a reduction in inflammation and stiffness associated with tendonitis.

Many patients have found relief from chronic tendonitis pain through dry needling, often in combination with other treatments such as physical therapy or anti-inflammatory medications.

Physical Therapy For Treating Tendonitis

Our physical therapist can work with you to create a personalised treatment plan that focuses on reducing pain, improving flexibility, and strengthening the affected tendon. This may include a combination of exercises, stretches, manual therapy, and modalities such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation. The goal of physical therapy for tendonitis is to promote healing, restore function, and prevent re-injury. Through consistent and supervised sessions with a physical therapist, you can experience improvement in their symptoms and regain their normal range of motion.

Dr. Nayna Boohla was incredible adjusting my twisted back and hips after a fall I took in the rain on holiday. She is very caring and incredibly knowledgable at chiropractic and Accupuncture. And only because of her I could continue my trip for another 3 weeks.

Yvonne is a miracle worker! I was in pain for months with lower back pain and nothing was working--went to Yvonne at Head to Toe and over time she has made my pain manageable and most days non-existent! She listened to me and we worked out a plan that included me getting back to the gym and getting off pain killers, and so far its working out brilliantly! I can actually move again and enjoy my life which frankly, didn't seem possible 6 months ago...I cannot recommend Yvonne highly enough-Thank you!

I had my first session yesterday! After years of injuring my back while working I’ve had masseuses refuse to touch it out of fear of damaging my back even more. I’ve had numbness in my arm, terrible sleeping patterns and my lower back locks up very often. Out of fear, I was nervous to try acupuncture but Nayna was so calm and made the process very relaxing. She took all the time she needed, clicking and relieving my back, neck, arms, pelvis and legs. I slept like a baby last night for the first time in ages! My back was so inflamed and I can now feel the instant relief after going only once. It is costly but so so worth it (in my opinion the expense of going to many cheaper places adds up and doesn’t have the same effect). I’m able to go about my day pain free and I’m not even taking any pain killers or anti inflammatories, I feel amazing! Thank you Nayna X

I went to Barry Murphy Mid April for physical therapy treatment due to ongoing pain in my left hip and lower back brought on from running. In short Barry was fantastic. Not only did he help alleviate symptoms he also gave me the tools and skills to ensure that I wont end up in the same place again. Thanks to Barry, I now have a much better understanding of my body and how it works and how to take care of it. Finally he's a lovely guy and completely put me at my ease.
